Marc by Marc Jacobs: Eco-chic

At first sight they look like a pair of very chic, vintage-inspired, chocolate colour sunglasses with green arms inspired by the texture of leaves. But the new Marc by Marc Jacobs MMJ 261s sunglasses are much more: produced and distributed by Safilo, the model is created using a material derived from castor-oil seeds and comes protected in a leather case assembled from scraps of repurposed, reworked leather.

And there’s more: the brand is using the model to support the work of the organisation The Nature Conservancy, which is involved globally in the “Plant a Seed – Grow Your Tree and Save the Forest" project. This programme includes the “Plant a Billion Trees” campaign, which is directly financed by MMJ from parts of the proceeds of the sale of the sunglasses. The campaign’s aim is to protect and replant the Atlantic Forest in Brazil, one of the tropical forests at greatest risk of totally disappearing.
